Opportunities and Challenges As Cannabis Becomes Today’s Hottest Medicinal and Culinary Herb

Women of the Psychedelic Renaissance sponsored Robyn Griggs Lawrence’s presentation, Cannabis is a Superfood: Opportunities and Challenges as Cannabis Becomes Today’s Hottest Medicinal and Culinary Herb, at Visionary Convergence in Los Angeles on September 25-27, 2015. Robyn discussed the importance of developing organic standards and consumer protections, the emergence of cannabis cuisine as an alternative to smoking and vaping, and how the legal cannabis industry is unfolding. “I don’t want to see cannabis grown in monoculture, adulterated and manipulated, isolated into chemical compounds, genetically modified and sprayed with chemicals,” Robyn said. She also moderated a facilitated conversation, Cannabis Social Use, Recreation & Medicine, with Annie Oak during the conference. Robyn was featured in an LA Yoga about Visionary Convergence.

“In the late 1990s, we had to fight for organic food production standards that prohibited biosludge (aka, sewage sludge), antibiotics and growth hormones—all practices that the federal government was prepared to deem safe and appropriate. The cannabis industry has a long way to go until we can even begin to have conversations about federal standards—it has to be federally legal, for one thing—but states are beginning to pay attention to the sometimes flagrant misuse of the words “organic” and “chemical-free” in cannabis marketing.” – Robyn Griggs Lawrence
