Cosmic Sister® is an environmental feminist educational advocacy group founded in 2007 by cultural activist Zoe Helene. We advocate for women, wilderness and wildlife, and for our natural right to work with “sacred plants” and fungi—such as ayahuasca, peyote, iboga, San Pedro cactus, psilocybin mushrooms and cannabis—as “nature’s evolutionary allies.” Our focus is intentional journeying with these medicines in a safe, legal “set and setting,” from a women’s empowerment perspective. We have several interconnected educational advocacy projects in place.

Cosmic Sister® is an environmental feminist educational advocacy group founded in 2007 by cultural activist Zoe Helene in support of women working in and for progressive mind-body-spirit wellness, human and non-human rights, lifestyles of sustainability and more. We are truth-seekers, trailblazers and love warriors, and we have hope for the future.

We envision a healthy, life-affirming balance of power between genders, worldwide. We envision a well world where women are fully respected globally, where their voices are heard and respected, and where a natural, healthy, life-affirming gender balance is restored. We believe that many of the world’s most critical problems are a result of a gross gender imbalance that has been sustained for thousands of years. We do not want our species to evolve in the direction we see the majority of human beings choosing, and we wish to be part of a global cultural shift that helps us evolve more rationally and with functioning minds, hearts and spirits with respect and love for other life-forms and the planet we all depend on to survive. We are passionate about helping to protect wilderness spaces and wildlife species that are currently in crisis or threatened.

We are building a great Core Team and Expert Advisory Circle and have some powerful, talented women in place. If are interested in being part of our Expert Advisory Circle, please reach out!

Cosmic Sister’s membership is a vast and diverse network of accomplished creative, communications and media professionals and experts in the fields of mind/body/spirit wellness, plant medicine, ethnobotany, herbalism, human and non-human rights, arts and sciences, psychedelics, cannabis liberation, environmental protection, natural products and sustainable lifestyle, progressive integrated medicine, psychology and much more. 3. Educating the public honestly about the benefits and risks of (legal) intentional work with psychedelics, with a special focus on sacred plants (and fungi) such as ayahuasca, cannabis, peyote, iboga and psilocybin mushrooms, while promoting gratitude and respect for Indigenous wisdom.
  4. Promoting quality products and services that are sustainably produced, earth-friendly, animal-friendly, ethically produced, artisan-made, vintage recycled or repurposed, with preference given to women, women-owned businesses, or organizations led by women (but we do not exclude men). Preference is also given to women who are members of Cosmic Sister and/or fit the Cosmic Sister profile. Women whose work is selected to be showcased have an open invitation to join Cosmic Sister.
  5. Educating the public honestly about the importance and complexity of true sustainability and global trade, with special attention given to cultural exchange through sacred plant medicine traditions, informed mindful trade in fine Indigenous arts and medicinal plants to provide a positive, real-world model for supporting environmental diversity and cultural preservation, evolution and exchange.
  6. Educating the public honestly about the importance of human rights with a special focus on women and children’s rights and respect for Indigenous people.
  7. Educating the public honestly about the state of wilderness, wildlife and animal rights, with preference given to promoting women's expert voices on the frontline.
  8. Developing and publishing educational materials that further the mission/vision.
  9. We honor men and boys as well as members of the LGBTQIA+ community who share our values and demonstrate outstanding work in support of our mission/vision.

Educational advocacy is a core concept in our approach to supporting ethical evolution. We have several interconnected advocacy projects in place that help spread the word about good work being done by women (and occasionally men) around the world. Our educational advocacy work includes multiple projects that we've broken up into several main sub-sets, with plenty of cross-over and cross-pollination content. Please visit our EDUCATIONAL ADVOCACY PROJECTS page to learn more.

Cosmic Sister's founder, Zoe Helene, is most widely known for "Psychedelic Feminism," a term she coined and popularized to describe a sub-genre of feminism that embraces sacred plants as psychedelic evolutionary allies for women's healing, self-liberation and empowerment, and for exploring core feminist issues in fresh and exciting ways. We promote intentional journeying with natural psychedelics in a safe, legal “set and setting,” and we help to bring women’s voices to the forefront in the field of psychedelics (and beyond).

We currently offer an interconnected quartet of merit-based Psychedelic Feminism educational advocacy grants—Women of the Psychedelic Renaissance, Cosmic Sisters of Cannabis and the original, immersive Cosmic Sister Plant Spirit Grant—support women’s voices in psychedelics (and cannabis) culture. The new Cosmic Sister Emerging Voices Award supports individuals who demonstrate outstanding potential in the field of psychedelics (and cannabis) to strengthen their visibility in the community. Donations for the Women of the Psychedelic Renaissance and Cosmic Sisters of Cannabis educational grants are fully tax-deductible through Cosmic Sister’s fiscal sponsor, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). The original Plant Spirit Grant and Emerging Voices Educational Awards are funded internally.

Cosmic Sister's vast network of accomplished creative, communications and media professionals and experts in the fields of mind/body/spirit wellness, plant spirit medicine, ethnobotany, herbalism, anthropology, psychedelic studies, progressive integrated medicine, and psychology offers a rich, deep talent pool. We also hire qualified professionals for commissioned assignments on a per-project basis, as funding allows. If you would like to contribute, please reach out.
